![]() Most Successful Team Ever? Success is a word that is hard to define as everyone has a different interpretation of success. Is success measured in the amount of trophies won, the type of trophies won of the first team in a club to win a particular honour? It has to be said that the question may never be answered. There were and indeed are excellent teams within the club at present that have achieved great success over the years. There are very few honours that have not been won by the club. It is unfortunate that we have not got a club statistician who kept a record of all honours won over the last 47 years. There are a number of teams however who are remembered as being particularly successful. What about the team of the early 60's that had six internationals on it. Over a three year period they were runners up in the Ardiff Cup, runners up in 16A, runners up 17A, they won the Blakley Cup, AUL Minor Cup and retained the AUL Minor Cup in 63/64. Another team that is immediately recalled is the team of the late 60's early 70's that included Jimmy Holmes. It was a glorious time for the 'Bocco' as Jack Crowley an avid supporter of this team called the club. Between 1965 and 1972 the team won four leagues and eight cups including the Leinster Youths Cup. They were deprived of a treble including the FAI Youths Cup in their final schoolboy year in 1971. As that team was coming to the end of its schoolboy days another team was just beginning its schoolboy career. It was the team under the guidance of Peter Fitzpatrick. In its final year the team won the FAI Youths Cup, 18A and unfortunately lost out to Dundalk in the Leinster Youths final. In fact that team under 17A and under 18A remained unbeaten. Two of the players' went on to be even more successful, Johnny Reynor who graced the League of Ireland with Bohemians for years. Paul Doolin who broke most of the League of Ireland records and is now a Manager within the League were two from a very fine bunch of players. In more recent times the Premier Sunday team under Paul Martyn as Manager has gone from Div. 1 Sunday to Premier A in six seasons. They won Div.1 Sunday, Runners Up in Premier C and third in Premier B to advance to what is regarded as the finest Junior League in the country - Premier A. On the way they won the first ever Premier Cup at Junior Level, the Calor Gas Cup in 2001. Two of the player's, Brian Behan and Phillip Madden have represented the AUL in the Oscar Traynor Trophy, another first for the Club. The most successful team may be another team entirely that you remember, above are a few of the teams whop have performed well to keep the Bosco where it belongs, at the top. Back to Top |
